After pleading with the Protagonist to free him, he agrees to return all of Neksdor's gold. The Protagonist begins to chant his name, causing him to nearly be sealed in the lamp again. This later proves to be a fatal mistake, as he realizes that the Protagonist had gotten hold of the lamp. As the Protagonist arrives, the Genie blows off their demands to return the gold, saying that the Desert is his own turf. Within the Underground Maze, the Genie boasts about all the gold he now has, going behind a door guarded by a Minotaur to admire it. There, he steals all of the Desert Celebrity's gold and takes it to the Underground Maze. As he dismisses the thought, he decides to declare his freedom by raiding Neksdor Town. Upon being freed, the Genie admits that he was kidding about the wish, considering lying and kidding to be the same thing. The Prince, unsure on whether he should release him, is convinced of otherwise when the Genie mentions that he will grant whatever wish he desires. As he approaches the Prince, he tells of how he is a guardian spirit who was simply "minding their own business", until an "evil" sage came and sealed him within a Lamp. Some time after being sealed away the second time, his lamp is encountered by the Prince of a Nearby Land, depressed from his rejection with the Princess of Greenhorne. The Genie admits his lie to the Prince of a Nearby Land. Eventually, he was sealed back into his lamp by the Great Sage, which became scattered into the Neksdor Desert. After years of imprisonment, however, The Genie awoke from his slumber and continuously terrorized the region of Neksdor, causing no end of trouble to its residents. Long ago, the Genie was sealed away in a lamp and put into a deep sleep. 1.3 Close Encounter and Change of Heart.Lion notes that acts booked for this year’s lineup are folks that “play in the underground warehouse scenes all around the world and have built these niche followings that are really what house and techno was all about. Acts like Derrick Carter, DJ Halographic, Mark Farina, Dusky, Cinthie, CATZ ‘N DOGS, PartiBoi 69, Lee Reynolds, Soul Clap and others are amongst a list of artists the team has been eager to book for quite some time. “We’ve always thought that it was really important to give back and show love to the originators and people that have led the way via Chicago and Detroit,” Lion shares. “I think for fans who aren’t usually campers, it’s going to be even better since they don’t have to make these huge commitments, so this is a cool opportunity to show Los Angeles what we got, along with bringing in new fans.”įans this year can expect rising techno and house music acts along with a handful of originators. In March, the festival announced on its Instagram page that it would not be able to continue at Lake Perris due to venue requirements and the effects of inflation that “has made it virtually impossible for festivals like ours to produce camping events without sacrificing the quality of the experience.” However, they did promise fans who had already purchased tickets in advance that the festival would continue, bringing the same excitement and experience Desert Hearts is known to have, only this time bringing it to an open-air arena.Īdditionally, moving to Los Angeles allows festival goers to enjoy themselves without the hassle of camping or making the trip to Lake Perris, which Lion conveys that not everyone wants to do. Lion notes The Torch was the right place for the event to go. “And so to be able to showcase that community in such a mecca of entertainment that is Los Angeles just makes us really excited and super fired up to do this party in a city we love and at a venue we’ve had our eyes on for a while.” “Our vibe has always been about spreading as much love and positive energy as possible through music and dancing,” Lion says during a phone call.
